labels

Hello friends,
Yesterday I spent the day cleaning out the computer. I needed to print some of the labels I use to organize my students’ folders. The picture below is a sample folder that displays all the labels I use throughout the year.  There is a label for the student’s name (Avery 5160), a label for the Lab-r (Avery 6490), a label for the NYESLAT (Avery 5160) and a MUST HAVE ITEM label (Avery 6490) with an area to make check marks and to keep track of  items inside the folder.
There are two different sets of students' name labels. I included an old version with the word ESL and a newer version with the word ELL.

Jumpstart

Hi,  two weeks ago we held our one week long Jumpstart program for our incoming  "possible"  ELL kindergartners. This is the first time many of our little ones came to school and also it is the first time that they were separated from their parents. I created a one sheet newsletter to share with the parents what we did on a daily basis so the children could talk about their school day and share their experiences with family members. Also, the students took home an information sheet that included things we learned in class.

First day of class

SMILE!
I use this picture frame to capture the memories of my students this year. I saw this great idea on Pinterest (of course) and fell in love with it! I wanted to set the picture in a time frame and that is why I opted for Pete-the-cat. Most children know this character and he is cute and lovable.  Making the frame was extremely easy.  I just used a piece of foam board, cut out the middle and covered it with construction paper. I used some hot glue to keep the construction paper in place.  I made a large
craftivity of Pete and I printed "ROCKS" & "2013" using Broadway font from Microsoft.  I used Microsoft clipart to insert the globe in place of the zero in 2013.    Then I made the JUMPSTART letters and glued them to a single piece of construction paper to keep them straight. Next step was to hot glue all the components to the frame.  It was easy to make and very well received by the children who were eager and excited to have their pictures taken.

I made a small modification to the frames I saw in Pinterest because I felt that seeing the children’s hands took away from the picture. This is how I solved the problem: I added two small ribbons to the back of my frame with a tiny space for the children to place their hands and hold up the frame. I hot glued a piece of grosgrain ribbon because it is durable and doesn’t fray).

Welcome

The time has finally come for me to open the doors of my classroom and welcome you to Rhoda’s Kidz. The lovely and efficient ladies at Honey Bunch Blog got me up and running last June but it wasn’t the right time for me. The new school year is here and I am looking forward to sharing with you all the many activities I do in the classroom. I am eager to become part of the blogging community. Please join me, “mi casa es su casa” or “mi clase es su clase”. I am looking forward sharing my experiences and materials as I teach.
